[Talk-pt] Mapping in Portugal - Some smal questions

Boa tarde Matthias,

I'll try to answer the other questions :

1. I've no idea how Bing is accurate ;-)
Note that there's probably a lot of data in Lisbon which where traced years ago from Yahoo! Imagery, so old data can be misaligned when compared to Bing.
I expect Bing have made a good ortorectification, I hope some of ours GIS expert have some "metrics" in this matter.

2. The 'hard' rules for road classification in Portugal are :

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Estradas

But you know, there's no such thing as hard rules in OSM ;-)

Personally, I use highway=service for roads accessing amenity : fuel station, parking.
For a road going around one or more buildings, obviously used only for those resident, I'll tend to classify it as highway=residential.

3. The Postal Code in Portugal are :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_codes_in_Portugal

The first 4 digit was the old postal code, and the 3 digits following the dash is an even more precise area in this postal code.
I don't know all the details and I didn't spend time searching, but I presume that the postal code follow the administrative area in some way, so it seems possible to follow the Karlsruhe schema and only code addr:street and addr:housenumber and deduce the city and postal code from other spatial entity. But we are far from it, we didn't have all the administrative area in OSM, it's a matter I'm currently working on (slowly :-).

By the way, for the Karlsruhe schema, I've not seen a prefered way in the community on how to enter address :
- using addr:street
- using associatedStreet relation

Perhaps you have more experience in entering address so we can choose a prefered method for Portugal. As a matter of taste, I prefer not using relation for address and using only addr:street, but that's my personal view ;-)

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/House_numbers/Karlsruhe_Schema

One final question for Nuno José or someone with more pratical knowledge than me, in the example given I'm missing something, in Karlsruhe schema notation we have :

addr:housenumber = 18
addr:street = Rua Pé de Mouro
addr:postcode = 2714-510
addr:city = Linhó

So the Sintra information will be lost ?

Francisco

Hi Matthias Meisser

That address should be:

Rua Pé de Mouro, 18
Linhó
2714-510 Sintra

Rua Pé de Mouro - Street Name
18 - Number
Linhó - city/town/vilage
2714-510 Sintra - Postal CODE

Best Regards

Hi community,

I finally started mapping small things around here and of course there
appear some questions to me:

1. Bing alignment
The Bing imagery looks very good for my part of Lisbon. But as the
area is very hilly, I'm not sure if it's well aligned? In Germany it's
mostly ok, as we don't have that strong height differences, but I
don't expect that BING had been postprocessed here, to fix that things?

2. Road classification
I noticed that most smaller roads that I would classify as
highway=service are mapped as resedential and with name instead. So I
guess the requirements for service tag is even higher in Portugal?

3. Address format
When I try to add the address from a LIDL superstore, there is at the
bill:
LIDL&Cia - LISBOA -AV. C:E:G Lojas Alimentares
AV Cor Eduardo Galhardo, Lt A - Lisboar
Rua Pé de Mouro, 18
Linhó - 2714-510 Sintra

So I just add it like
addr:street=Rua Pé
addr:housenumber=18
but is there a postal code or something else?

As you see, language seems to be my biggest problem, as I had to learn
the usual terms for roads and places and the special characters of course.

kind regards,
Matthias
