Whether or not _I_ have an obligation to implement it personally, if
it's popular then there is an obligation for it to be implemented.
Contrary to what you suggest, that obligation has always existed.
Plenty of things have been implemented in Potlatch (1 and 2) because
the community is using them, not because I personally like them. Some
examples: Yahoo imagery, smart behaviour when splitting ways which are
part of turn restrictions, multipolygons. I don't use any of them yet
I've implemented all three because there is a community consensus
behind them.
If this latest schema catches on, there will be an expectation that it
is supported in Potlatch, and there will be complaints - directed at
me and my co-authors - if it isn't.
Editor support is part of the cost of any new complex proposal. You
are not simply sitting here drawing up your ideal data model with no
connection to the real world. Actions have consequences, and you need
to think about them.
