Hi,

I've been wondering the same for quite a long time, but I noticed that
Tilemill is very good if you want to reder things for debugging purposes.
I've made a blog post about getting data in tilemill and one about rendering
in TileMill. It's for Ubuntu 11.04 or a derivated distro, but if you know
your distro package names, you can adapt it to any Linux distro.

http://ossandod.blogspot.com/2011/06/create-your-own-map-with-openstreetmap.html

This uses the standard osm2pgsql style, that means that there is no data for
pt lines included. But if you look at the /usr/share/osm2pgsql/default.style
file, you see an example to include bycicle routes. Adapting it for bus
routes should be easy and I'm planning to talk about that in my next post
(in a few days). If you have troubles, you may always contact me.

Regards,
Sander
