OpenStreetMap originated in the UK and Germany but these days it is far 
more widespread.

Are you asking if anyone in the US adds bus stops?  Or saying you think 
that the recommended practices for mapping bus stops should be different 
in the US.

OSM is often used by apps to show routing or when the next bus is coming 
etc.  Some are used for partially sighted people or others with 
disabilities.  They depend on standard field names and values which is 
one reason why there are recommendations on what goes where.  The apps 
don't just work in the US.
