Hi, list:
I am Rafael Avila Coya, from Spain, and I was kindly asked to help on
giving my advice and mentoring on the import of about 60,000 km or new
roads of Tanzania.
Over the past year, the Medical Stores Department (MSD - msd.or.tz)
(which is a parastatal organization) and JSI staff (deliver.jsi.com)
collected GPS data (from now on we will call it MSD&JSI data) from
medical supply delivery vehicles across Tanzania, and processed that
into OSM road network improvements. The data was worked on externally in
ArcGIS and QGIS, so there's a need for an import process to get this
comprehensive road data into OSM. Additional data was generated using
Bing aerial imagery.
In this hackpad [1] you can see how this data is, its license, expected
import schedule, etc. I am also writing a detailed workflow on how to
comprehensively import the data [2]. And finally, the official import
wiki is also ready for discussion [3], before we proceed to the imports
mailing list.
As you can see, the method to integrate these data in OSM is manually
through several HOT Tasking Manager projects.
About the license, it seems it is alright for me. It lets use the data
to conflate it with the OSM roads, and the only restriction is that it
has to be done by September 2016, so plenty of time.
I look forward for your feedback, questions, concerns, corrections, etc.
In case there aren't we could start the last discussion with the imports
list in a few days.
Cheers,
Rafael.
