[Talk-ug] QGIS How to's (Talk-ug Digest, Vol 18, Issue 3)

Thanks for your response, Reinier. I know the QGIS-documentation you mentioned and indeed, it is very good. However, it differs from what I am looking for. With "How to's" I mean a one page instruction (or some more pages might it be necessary) for a quite limited and strict action. May be it isn't necessary to write or create new "How to's", but can it be just be a "How to" index or a "How to" reference in existing documentation, to quickly get to the right spot in the documents. The "QGIS Tutorials and Tips" index might meet this when it should be more comprehensive and should contain "How to's" up to simple, basic actions.

As a matter of fact, my point is not direct trainers. It's more about a structure how to get to the right information as fast as possible.

(By the way: we met in Kampala, didn't we?).

Kind regards,
Jan Hoogendoorn.

Hallo,

I am giving a course in QGIS in Uganda at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation. What I would like to have is a series of "QGIS How to" or "How do I do in QGIS" as a reference for the basic operations like opening a vector file, creating a vector file, opening a raster, labeling, bandrandering, etc., etc.. I found something the like at http://hub.qgis.org/projects/quantum-gis/wiki/How_do_I_do_that_in_QGIS. However, the links on this site are broken. Does anybody know what is the matter with this site and whether these links can be fixed? Or are there alternative How to's available, preferably in pdf or the like, as on average the students have limited access to internet.

Kind regards,

Hi Jan,

How about

http://docs.qgis.org/2.8/en/docs/gentle_gis_introduction/index.html

Which includes 'A Gentle Introduction to QGIS'
http://docs.qgis.org/2.8/en/docs/gentle_gis_introduction/index.html

or
http://www.qgistutorials.com/en/index.html

There is quite a few Ugandan QGIS trainers around as well, some might be on this list, so if you need a hand, just ask.

Rgds,
