[Talk-ug] Uganda Bureau Of Statistics Education facilities import

Hi,

My first message on this list. I think it's great to see that the mapping
community of Uganda is involved in this. Better yet, it's great to see that
there is an active local community starting to grow.

About the import, I don't think it's a big problem if it takes months or
even years to complete the task. It would be great if we were able to
combine the data with some research. It starts by looking up the school
with an internet search engine, some schools even have pages on Wikipedia.

If the school has a website or contact details we can map those.

Another thing we can do, is add items on Wikidata for them, then link to
those from the OSM nodes, like this:

http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/3926018043

That one already had an entry on Wikidata, but it would be relatively easy
to create Wikidata items semi-automatically. (I don't know if the license
of the data permits this though).

The advantage of doing his, is that they all get unique identifiers, which
can make a future conflation/match up a lot easier.

Another thing that would be very useful for the schools locals can get
access to, is to create Mapillary street view 'imagery'.

This involves walking in the streets with GPS enabled smartphones, and I
have no idea how safe it is to do that in the streets of Kampala. (It can
also be done from within a car).

Having such imagery would make it possible to map the entire surroundings
of those schools in high detail by local, or by remote mappers. It also
makes it possible to verify or add other details later on. I realise it's
not possible to do that for all the schools all over the country, obviously.

Anyway, these are just a few thoughts I have. Maybe I'm exaggerating, or
maybe I'm wrong and it is important to complete the integration fairly
quickly.
