[Talk-us-massachusetts] Acton trail prototype (was: Trails on private land)

Here's our prototype for Acton Trails, very much in progress. Happy to have
comments, as long as you understand that this is preliminary & we know we
aren't ready for primetime yet.

We do hide trails that are marked private. We are thinking of adding the
sort of decoration that we've seen on SVT maps: a red X on stubs of trails
that become private, to ward people off more visibly (but still allow the
display of the stub for navigation purposes)
We have the zoom level and the location in the URL, as read & write
parameters, so we can send URLs that point to particular locations. That's
been helpful within the trails committee.
The map starts zoomed out for context. That's particularly helpful when we
are showing a very small area.
As you can see we are very much just getting started on the legend. We are
currently I think we'll end up having it on an optional panel that can
slide in so that it doesn't take up much screen real estate. We are also
working out howto have the legend change as the zoom level changes (this
doesn't work yet). And sometimes the legend doesn't show at all: reload the
page to get it back.

We are using mapbox for our trail data. Mapbox starts from OpenStreetMap
data for its base layers & then combines and simplifies it a bit. It
provides styling per zoom level. We are still working out how best to use
this styling feature, but you can see as you zoom in that we have dash-dot
patters and colors for our trails that show up as you zoom in. We are also
highlighting the Bay Circuit Trail: thanks to Alan for helping to make it
easy to grab this off of OSM. For data like this, we get the data directly
from OSM & put it in our own mapbox layers, instead of relying on Mapbox,
which throws away too much data for us to use it directly for features like
this.

Happy to answer questions and take feedback.
