Have you tried the new Strava imagery in JOSM or ID, It's fantastic and so
much better than the old imagery. A great way to refine trails and to find
new ones. I read about it in weekly osm
<http://www.weeklyosm.eu/archives/9621>

   - Strava has updated its heatmap and written an *article*

about
   the update. Evaluating three trillion latitude/longitude points (10
   terabytes of raw data), the heatmap can also be used in iD and JOSM

The Global Heatmap, Now 6x Hotter

I tried the Strava Slide Tool in ID today and was
really
impressed.
 Using the tool, a
 coarse input line is iteratively refined to optimize its alignment with
the GPS heat data.

All the information about the tool is at
https://labs.strava.com/slide/

I
've found that most of the trails I've mapped with my gps are better
represented in the Strava data representing many more data points.
