The following quoted text is what I received about the mapathon. If you
decide to attend please look for me and say hello, I'll probably be the
oldest, white haired, bearded guy in the room.

"Hi everyone,
With the support of MIT Libraries, we are hosting a humanitarian mapathon
to respond to Hurricane Maria's impact on the island of Puerto Rico. If you
are seeing this message, you are invited!
If you're interested in participating, please bring your laptops to Dewey
Library <http://whereis.mit.edu/?go=E53>Room 212 THIS Sunday, October 8,
2017, between 1-5PM. You're free to stop by for as long as you want!
Following the recent hurricane, people around the world are using the
OpenStreetMap <http://tasks.hotosm.org/> platform to give their time to
hurricane relief efforts. The Red Cross in Puerto Rico has requested two
tasks we can help with for their relief efforts: (1) mapping buildings and
(2) mapping pre-disaster imagery to give an operating picture of the island
before the hurricane made landfall.
This work has real impact on the ground, and this would be a meaningful
opportunity for you to participate in response efforts from afar.
NO PRIOR MAPPING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! NO KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL TERRAIN IS
NECESSARY! SNACKS WILL BE PROVIDED!
Please RSVP here
