Seems like a very good thing.
(1) 0.0 acres in adjacent town
A friend of mine is very interested in conservation land in the City of
Malden.
He's been doing a little trail-mapping without really knowing what he's
doing, he's not a mapper at heart.
I will want to refer him to your resource when it's ready.
He would, I'm sure, immediately notice City of Melrose is listed as owning
0.0 acres within his city of Malden.
which links to http://mass-trails.org/towns/Malden/mapleterrace.html
which repeats "Area In Malden: 0.0 Acres"
If this is an artifact of the boundary for a park / conservation tract
running along the boundary of another town, you probably want either to
(a) document this in the template and link to a FAQ or
(b) suppress 0.0 acre listings ?
(2) Boston. "Total Conservation Land Area 0.0 Square Miles, 0.0 Percent"
We have both parks and conservation lands within the City of Boston, both
City and DCR, likely others.
Maybe you just haven't imported them yet.
E.g.,
Franklin Park http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/65053
Stoney Brook Reservation http://www.openstreetmap.org/w
ay/29859850#map=15/42.2610/-71.1396&layers=H &
http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/29859850 & http://www.openstreetmap.org/w
ay/29830095 (no Relation to tie them?)
I
see on your top-level map you do have the Neaponset River Greenway
and trails in the Stoney Brook
, that's cool.
(3) "Contribute" page "Tagging" section mixes your rendering rules with
tagging suggestions. I can see what you mean, but newbies may get the wrong
idea. And this could be construed by some of our more righteous OSM folks
as encouraging newbies to be "tagging for the render." We don't want either
the newbies or the righteous to think that! So some re-wording might keep
others from getting confused? In addition to "Jump Right in," you should
probably link the OSM Wiki and note our practice of tagging as it appears
on the ground, and letting the renderer adjust.
In particular, "width=2" has some meaning other than "make it look
wider".
There are specific values for the surface tag on the wiki; linking
<http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:surface> that page might be better
than copying here.
(What do you do with a trail that is MISSING an access= tag?)
Cheers,
Bill in Boston
