Last night Ruth & I attended https://www.meetup.com/Maptime-Boston/ . We
met at the Newsfeed Cafe in the Boston Public Library and participated
in Atlascope
Trivia Night run by the Norman B. Leventhal Map & Education Center.
The idea was to compete with other map enthusiasts to answer questions like
"what two business were located on Jamaica Pond in the 1870's?"
using the https://atlascope.leventhalmap.org/#view:map tool which allows
you to view many historic maps overlaid on a openstreetmap.org base layer.
The web app is intuitive and once you play around with it you'll want to
see more than just Boston. I want to see maps from the 1800's of the
Lincoln/Concord/Lexington/Bedford area. I think I heard correctly that the
Leventhal Center still has 11,000 maps to warp so it may be a while. They
train volunteers to digitize/rectify so maybe there's a was to participate.
