I'm curious if you are writing as a random conservation land user, some
who is nearby the mapped parking areas, or as part of some town
government or land trust?

Probably many people would, but we have to get information in a way that
we can rely on it for copyright purposes.

So a way forward is:

  you sign up for an account at osm, agreeting to the contributor terms

  understand that we do not copy from other maps, except MassGIS which
  is public domain

  you install some app like OsmAnd and enable the OSM editing plugin

  look at www.openstreetmap.org, as I'm not sure how often mass-trails
  is updated from the main database

  you go to each parking area not on the map, and select "add POI" and
  select parking.  Don't give it a name unless it is truly a named
  parking area with signs (descriptions do not belong in name fields).

  Or, select "add note" and say there is parking.

  Make sure to be logged in, as a note from anonymous is only useful as
  a "hey, next time you are here, see if there really is parking" to
  contributors, while a note from a registered user (who was accepted
  terms) can be relied on.
