Well, nemmine, I finally figured out how to

    break the relation membership
    split the shared points
    whittle the offending object down to a manageable size
    finally, delete it

in iD, but none of this is obvious.  Next question: Why are the "inner"
ponds in

*not* showing up as inners / cutouts?  They don't even get outlined when
looking directly at the object.  Do relations simply not work as inners?
