It's been a busy summer, so here's one more. For those who need a refresher, I wrote up an introduction to our group on OSM's Discourse forum. [1] If you haven't used the forum before, it's a lively alternative to the talk-us and talk-us-sfbay mailing lists. You can log in using your OSM account. We're continuing to meet online biweekly on Thursday evenings, but instead of Zoom, we're using the OSMF BigBlueButton server, which has no time limit and seems to be working pretty well for our needs so far. As always, you can find our schedule on OSMCal [2] or Meetup [3][4]. Our longtime host, Code for San Jose [5], is changing its name to Open Source San Jose. The new name better reflects their focus on open solutions in civic technology. This change is happening because Code for America is cutting ties with its local brigades. You'll see references to CfSJ gradually go away over the course of this year. However, South Bay OSM will continue to partner with them as usual. The huge San Jose building and address import is complete, but there are still some parts of the South Bay that lack comprehensive building and address coverage. The Overture Foundation is specifically using that as a selling point for their product over OSM. Who doesn't love a friendly rivalry? Some of us have started getting into OpenHistoricalMap [6], an even more ambitious project to map everywhere in all of history. The map is quite sparse in the South Bay so far, but we have a number of ideas for ramping up coverage. [7] Please help! See you around the map!
