Here you can request and download any region of the planet. currently
there are still some problems with the splitting in US
http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php
Your approach will not allow routing across states because Cloudmade
maps clip at state boundaries.
If you can write script to combine the maps it's as simple to create
all of them yourself based on a planet file or US planet extract.
have done only the western states not whole US yet but should run in
less than a day on a reasonable computer.
process is
- planet file
- osmosis to download diff files incrementally
- osmosis to clip area
- splitter to split tiles. first time is try and error until tiles are
small enough. subsequent runs use same tile size for updates
- mkgmap to compile
Can try next week to run whole US for runtime stats and scripts to
share. need to prepare for some hiking trip now ....
