6-month secondment/internship on Volunteered Geographic Information
Please distribute this announcement – or to a person that might be interested
Location: Shared between the University College of London (UK) and
Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada)
Start date: September 2014.
Funding will cover travel costs to Canada and a scholarship (amount
will depend on candidate’s education and experience).
The study intends to better understand the impact of mass imports on
OSM contributors' motivation in different cultural contexts. Through
an analysis of the OpenStreetMap (OSM) database, the candidate will
explore the characteristics and impacts of mass data imports into OSM
for different geographic locations in Europe and North America.
The successful candidate will possess a background in Geography,
Computer Sciences or equivalent, with the ability to program,
manipulate databases (e.g. PostGIS), and be ideally familiar with
OpenStreetMap. The candidate will spend four months at Memorial
University of Newfoundland (Canada) and two months at the University
College London (UK) in collaboration with an ongoing European COST
ENERGIC network (see www.vgibox.eu).
Interested candidates should email a resume, a copy of their
transcripts and a short cover letter outlining their interests in the
project to Dr Rodolphe Devillers (rdeville at mun.ca) by Aug 4th.
