I've done it occasionally when I've been editing link roads/ramps
(also adding destination:ref), but I haven't gone through and done it
systematically on the through ways themselves. It's probably something
that could be fairly automated (adding it to both the link roads and
mainlanes). However, there are discrepancies between the AASHTO list
and what's signed in the field, particularly at rural/suburban ramps
(for example, the I-75 south ramps in Valdosta, Ga. are sometimes
signed for "Lake Park," which is a tiny town on the Ga-Fl border,
rather than Lake City or Tampa (or Ocala, which is almost never used
southbound on I-75 but is used northbound on both the Turnpike and
I-75) in Florida.
I've used destination on ramps where they go to signed routes, but I'm
not sure it's appropriate for "destinations" like street names; the
latter probably should be destination:name or something like that,
based on the destination:ref precedent.
