[Talk-us] San Louis Obispo CA area - Chimney Wildfire - OSM US Tasking Manager Project

Hi all,

One of the many fires burning in CA at this time is one that started
this weekend and is currently only 10% contained.

A local OSM'er is in contact with the county GIS folks and they report
they have excellent road network data, but could possibly use building
footprints and backyard swimming pool locations.

If anyone is interested in helping knock out the building footprints
in the area I set up a project on the US Tasking Manager:

http://tasks.openstreetmap.us/project/59

These should go pretty quickly, it is a sparsely populated area with
most task squares just being forest. And there is already some quite
good mapping of the area.

It is also a good chance to fix up road data, but building footprints
and swimming pools are the priority.

Can not promise the data will be used for this fire, but there is a
decent chance it will.

CalFire and county GIS folks are looking at OSM to see how it might
help in their efforts for the rest of this season and future fire
seasons, so this is just part of an informal effort to try and be as
helpful as we can.

Regards,
Blake
