In my own small way, I monitor my local area (several counties in California) for obvious Pokemon Go vandalism.  It is often a small lake or pond (natural=water feature) adjacent to a leisure=park.  I use a changeset comment or send a missive to the author (usually brand-new) and ask them to remove these data.  Firmly, but leaving open the door to "nice" in case there is more future interaction.  After a few days to maybe ten days, I remove the data myself.  Some of these people can indeed be "turned" into good OSM contributors, it is partly how nice/kind my/our approach as we do this, it is partly how willing they are to feel a sense of the true mission of OSM when they are shown the errors of their ways.  So there are better methods to do this, and sometimes they work.
