[Talk-us] islands not rendering properly near Troy, NY

just removing waterway=riverbank tag results in a polygon with
only a name tag, which triggers JOSM's validator.

from looking at the tagging page, i see that waterway=riverbank
is deprecated in favor of natural=water + water=river
i will try that and see if the rendering cleans up.
