Hi, list:
At DWG we have received a polite request to flag a military area used by
the army of your country during many years, located in the Eastern part
of the Ford Ord National Monument protected area. The request came from
the Fort Ord Cleanup Area GIS manager.
He asked for that because it happens that some people using Komoot are
trespassing the limits, thinking it is a leisure area, but it is a
restricted access area due to the presence of unexploded ordnance, that
is now being cleaned up.
I have traced myself the area [1], following his indications, tagging it
as landuse=military + access=no, and adding the access=no tag to any
track or path within that area that didn't have it yet.
I come here to tell you this because:
1. Users in this list may improve, with local knowledge, that
preliminary map of mine: naming, geometry, fences, etc. There is also
the southern part of the Impossible Canyon Road that may be open to the
public, as it goes parallel to the limits of the area, but that I put as
non-accessible for the moment, for peace of mind.
2. But also to make you aware of this issue, so you can keep an eye on
that area of the map to avoid future problems.
If you wish to contact with the GIS manager who opened the ticket,
please let me know, and I will contact him to ask for permission to
share his email address with you.
Cheers,
Rafael Avila Coya.
