It's organic, rather than formal, but there is a relation out West with
type=route route=road network=US:US:Historic ref=66. Some prototype highway
shield renderers handle it appropriately.

I think there are some other route relations for the Great River Road,  the
Lincoln Highway, and so on, but I don't recall details and can't be
bothered to check until I'm back on a real computer instead of a smartphone.
