Historical features were originally imported into OSM, but many were
deleted in the years since, and the rest were deleted in 2019, because
OpenStreetMap aims to represent the present rather than the past. [1]
Historical schools can sometimes help us identify present-day schools
that go by a different name, but the presence of potentially confusing
"(historic)" features on the map, in search results, etc., outweighed
that occasional value.
It would be interesting to consider whether OpenHistoricalMap should
import the historic features. In many cases, the description field could
be parsed to come up with reasonably reliable start_date and end_date tags.
