Let's not get carried away. I am with Greg on this, i.e. a commando for 
all things open (and the OSMF is leaning that way too, as I think they 
should), but I know perfectly well that you lose as many people when you 
suggest to use IRC as you lose when you suggest to use Slack.

As I said, as long as you don't take binding decisions on proprietary 
media, it's no big deal. Remember that Slack archives are neither 
publicly accessible nor guaranteed to remain accessible to those in the 
channel, so for the benefit of non-Slackers and posterity, have someone 
write up some minutes.
