It's hard to understate how useful this renderer can be for the U.S.
community. For one thing, rendering proper shields will let us move past
the limitations of ref=* on ways, freeing up that tag for other
purposes. It will also help us visualize our progress in evolving and
cleaning up tagging across the country (and even potentially in other
countries in some cases).

A big thanks also to Brian for rallying everyone around what had been on
a lot of people's wishlists for a long time. Getting here required a lot
of yakshaves. We have a lot of work to do -- there isn't even much to
look at if you zoom in to a neighborhood scale yet, but we'll get there
eventually.

By the way, if you don't have the time to keep up with discussions on
Slack, you can always leave a bug report, request an enhancement, or
give other kinds of feedback directly in the GitHub repository:

This project is also dedicated to the public domain, so you can feel
free to fork it for your own purposes. (But first, please consider
contributing to this project!)
