Disclaimer: I'm an OSM noob. So please excuse my ignorance about anything
and everything.
I want to "improve" the elevation data for roads in mountainous regions.
About the only thing I've found on the matter is the following
question posted on OSM help.
https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/9681/adding-elevation-data-to-existing-routes-conflation
All I can glean from this is that Frederik Ramm doesn't like the idea. All
the other jargon escapes me.
The reason I want to improve the elevation data is so that the routing
website I use, plotaroute.com, can do its best to model the route timer.
False climbs and descents, especially in narrow canyons, induce errors in
the route timer model. I'm hoping there are some cyclists in the group that
can comprehend what I'm trying to achieve and help prevent me from
reinventing the wheel.
