Hello, it's that time again: the Autumn 2022 AASHTO round to enter United States Bicycle Routes is here.
One proposed route, USBR 80 in Arkansas, seems nice for someone to enter as a fun, small-to-medium-sized project, as it is only 170 miles long, is already seeded [1] in OSM, and Arkansas Department of Transportation's (ArDOT's) application includes shapefile data (there are also GPX data if those are easier for you, just ask). So, if you use JOSM (to edit route relations, you should), and have its opendata plugin installed (not hard), you can superimpose a "trace" of the route using the shapefile data, making it fairly easy to pan along the route, downloading the necessary highway / cycleway segments to add as members to the seeded relation, and before you know it (please click JOSM's relation edit window's Sort button before uploading), you're ready to fully enter this route into OSM!
ArDOT's application is linked in our wiki [2] in the table at USBR 80. It might take you a couple/few hours, it shouldn't take you more than a weekend at most. If you choose to enter this segment of USBR 80 into OSM, you are welcome to contact me with any questions you might have, and I wish you a fun and enjoyable time!
As several local-to-Arkansas editors have been contacted about this off-list, be aware there may be others editing USBR 80 by the time you read this. If so, please contact them via OSM missive to directly collaborate; this can avoid Edit Conflicts.
Happy mapping!
