[OSM-Talk-ZA] Cadastral information

Hi Lance,

Any links to the terms of the copyright?
And if needs be, let's enter into such an agreement with the
Surveyor-General!

I see no conceptual difference in "manually copying" (tracing by hand)
information that is effectively in the public domain in South Africa,
versus "programatically tracing" them (i.e. converting the data for
direct upload). With our country's liberal "open data" policies, I am
sure an amicable agreement could be entered into - but first, I would
actually like to understand the limitations that state copyright imposes
for myself.

Having the cadastral information for South Africa missing from
OpenStreetMap is the primary area where Google Maps has us beat. If we
can get this in, it will transform the ability of this map to power
truly useful navigational software, and simply take the map to another
level.

In my personal opinion, there can be no greater goal than this at this
time! My programmer's hands are willing and able to assist where and if
necessary, and I know that Norman would be more than willing to get in
touch with the right people if some sort of agreement is required
(somewhat a speciality of his :-)

I can barely contain my excitement for the prospect of getting this data
into OSM.
