Hi Andrew,
The OSM community in Zambia is very active, more than you think. We have a couple of OSM WhatsApp groups, namely OSMZambia and OSMAfrica, where all ideas are shared. I’m currently in Angola and unfortunately my smartphone is broken, but you can send me your WhatsApp number and I’ll speak to the main Zambian mapper(she’s from Uganda actually but lives in Lusaka and oversees all the mapping projects) and the group admins. They will add you and then you’ll be able to get in touch with them(and myself too, soon, hopefully if I have my phone fixed) directly. If you zoom in the areas of the southern province around the towns of Sesheke and Mwandi, you’ll see lots of details. If you go to the capital and look at their tertiary roads and slums, you’ll see each one of them properly numbered and with lots of other metadata etc.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers.
Ed Nicolai

My team is interested in doing some work on the road network in Zambia on OpenStreetMap, things like adding missing roads, making sure roads connect properly, fixing incorrect alignments with GPS traces, ensuring road classifications are consistent, and other similar issues.
