[Openstreetmap] OpenGIS Similar status to early Linux?

Hi there,

I seem to be in on an interesting grassroots group like yours. But my time is unfortunately very limited to this project :(

I get the feeling this is the beginnings of "people's GIS, a bit like the early days of Linux in about 1993 that I remember.

Sooner or later our efforts will be discovered by the big companies and there will be Suse, Redhat, Debian flavours of web mapping, if you understand my drift.

Agree?
