Hello everyone,

For those interested in my Freemap project there is now a new version up at

http://www.free-map.org.uk

The new version includes coast data from

http://rimmer.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/coast/getcoast.html

The coast data is drawn dynamically at higher scales and a predrawn image at
lower scales.

I have also included height shading and SRTM data for the whole country below
55N.

The other thing I talked about with Steve was contributing my Freemap data to
the OpenStreetMap project (which would be fine as long as CC-SA or similar
was used). Also following my discussion with Steve I am now working on
developing a piece of "one stop" free mapping software which would work
alongside the existing applet for more detailed map construction. This is an
extension of my existing "fmapedit" software. This would be able to:

-allow the user to create maps from track logs and waypoints;
-allow the user to upload the maps to OpenStreetMap;
-show third-party data such as NASA SRTM or VMap data, allowing the user to
annotate as required;
-and, longer term, allow overlays of Landsat and other aerial photographic
data, to allow estimation of woods, etc.

Nick
