[Openstreetmap] Formats for uploading

I have just been trying to find where I go next, but the website seems 
so have got it's knickers in a twist, and will not serve up pages :(

I have GPS Trackmaker on the laptop, and a USP GPS module which is 
feeding it and all seems to be working. I can load all sorts of nice 
stuff into it and see my movements round the place.

Now I want to start building up useful tracks that I can export, since I 
have a few long runs in the offing over Easter week, I'd like to know 
that what I build up will be usable. Please can someone give me a few 
pointers to making this work ;)
