[Openstreetmap] GPS logging

My GPS only stores 1000 points, does anyone here know how I could log more points to a laptop using a live tracking connection? Currently I get a half hour worth of track at 1 point a sec., which is what I'm wanting for max. accuracy. Thanks for any input.
