[Openstreetmap] Where is my street map?

So, after getting the java applet working, I've spent some time
drawing lines where the roads are in Norway, but none of these lines
appear on the public version of OpenStreetmap.  Why is this?  For
example
<URL:http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit/viewMap.jsp?lat=68.39884&lon=16.60602&scale=160310.67>
should show a lot of black lines.  It does not.

Next, when I now try to look at the Oslo map,
<URL:http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit/viewMapImage.jsp?lat=59.95&lon=10.78&scale=177777.0>,
the servlet get out of memory exception.  Anything I can do to improve
the situation?  This worked earlier today.
