Would like to announce that Freemap-OSM (http://www.free-map.org.uk/osm), my
OSM client which uses Freemap code to present OpenStreetMap data in the
Freemap style, now shows points of interest such as villages, pubs, hills,
viewpoints etc.
Freemap-OSM now has the following features:
* displays different types of OSM segment in different colours/line
thicknesses, to distinguish between main roads, minor roads and paths;
* displays points of interest such as pubs, hills, villages;
* range of different scales;
* user can move to any latitude and longitude.
The following classes of points of interest will show up on Freemap-OSM with
an appropriate icon:
pub, hill, farm, viewpoint, church, railway station, mast, car park,
point of interest , caution, amenity, waypoint, tea shop, restaurant,
campsite, bridge, tunnel, barn, hamlet, village, small town, large town.
The syntax for tagging (via the API) is:
<node tags='class=XXX; name=YYY' lat="lat" lon="lon"/>
where XXX is the class (above) and YYY is the name.
e.g.
<node tags='class=pub;name=Red Lion' lat=... lon=.../>
<node tags='class=village;name=Fernhurst' lat=... lon=.../>
Will hopefully add something to the wiki about this.
Nick
