Well, I know the theory, I just didn't bother to validate it :-)
I was probably more interested when developing that version in getting the
Ajax to work....

Arguably, browsers should include syntax-checking for XHTML documents so
that people can find and correct errors quickly, like they can for
(generic) XML documents.

Just be thankful for liberal parsers in browsers (they aren't parsing
your XHTML as XML, I would put money on that).
