[Openstreetmap] Segments with more than two points?

Hello Steve and everyone,

Have been looking at the REST API and it seems there is no provision ATM
for segments with more than two points.Obviously this would be useful as a
road could encompass many points. Is there an intention to implement it
this way? It would seem to be more efficient in storage space and GPX file
size to do it that way rather than have a road consist of many, many
segments. Multiple-point segments is the way I currently do things in
osm-editor and Freemap.
