[Openstreetmap] First gpx upload - not sining it?

Greetings map lovers!

Ok so I found the OSM project this morning while looking for postcode/geo
data for something else (Swimming pools actually) and thought I could
certainly help out with track logs for the West Midlands, UK area.
So.. I found a track log for the M6 Toll road which I created with my Garmin
GPS on the first date the road opened a couple of years ago. Converted to
gpx XML using GPSBabel and uploaded. Changed to edit the map and expected to
see lots of little red dots for the route. No.. not present. So did I do
something wrong? Is data uploaded immediately available for editing? Anyway
it would be useful if someone in the know could give the low down on the
current status of uploading and editing gpx files.
