[OSM-talk] Forthcoming mapping weekend (RUTLAND)

Richard,

Looks like we have at least 4 Aye's and no No's for Oct 14/15 so let's plumb
for that one in terms of planning. Hopefully a suitable location can be
found that fits that weekend.

My experience from Mapchester & Bath suggests that a full time internet
connection is not essential. However if we have new users and local people
coming in through the door there is a big benefit in having something to
show. We can though do this through static views of Rutland if we have too.

The main thing is to be able to arrange somewhere to congregate first thing,
lunch, and later afternoon. A good local pub with food is also pretty
essential too :-)

On the accommodation front we need to investigate low cost accommodation.
That might include campsites although in October the nights are drawing in
which doesn’t make them ideal. Static caravans might work if they are cheap
enough (any feedback from IoW on these?) The cottages taken for the IoW were
I assume ok but obviously keeping the cost low will encourage more to take
part. Unless of course we can find a sponsor to assist. A bung of £500 would
probably set up most of the basic needs for anyone to take part with a bed
and bit of food thrown in if we can find suitable facilities.

Some info on the travel links needed. The A1 runs by Stamford on the eastern
fringe of Rutland and the A47 cuts east to west through Uppingham in the
south. Trains run through Oakham so I guess that might be the favoured Home
Base location. It's also close to Rutland Water where their might be
facilities. Anglian Water's web page for Rutland Water is here:

I haven't time right now to move this forwards so if you can do something to
kick the ball off Richard that would be great.

Can anyone else take on a task?

Cheers

Andy
