[OSM-talk] josm - missing crosshair for add node

I'm getting a weird and annoying problem with my josm on my ubuntu
(edgy) machine. The cross-hair mouse icon disappears when I try and
add a node. The cross-hair only disappears over the black map area. I
get the normal arrow mouse when hovering over the menu icons. This
makes it nigh on impossible to use as you can't see where the node
will be placed. However, when you click mouse-left, a node is added.

I've tried reinstalling the latest version of java and the latest
version of josm (josm-latest) but the same result appears. I'm almost
certain that this is intermittent as I've used it before without this
problem. However, this weekend, I don't seem to be able to get it back
again.

Any suggestions about what I might try?
