I've got access to a 1890 map of Edinburgh, which I'm trying to work
out the copyright status of.  I found this page today
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Out-of-copyright_maps so I'll
check the dates/publisher info tonight.

Far from perfect, but that + tracing of sat images ought to get a good
chunk of Edinburgh covered at least with road names pretty quick
sharp.  I also know the area reasonably well, but not well enough to
name roads without checking a reference.
