A slight variation on this does not address the connection to the gps
device. I've been toying with the idea of an OSMhelper module for
Drupal[1]. The module would allow nmea / garmin / gpsdrive / etc.
tracklog uploads, then automatically:
- apply osmfilter.pl or gpsbabel to make the gpx
- thumbnail the gpx
- provide a place for mappers notes / keywords
- allow separate attachments of scanned / photographed handwritten notes
- allow renaming the gpx with a meaningful name
- optional / deferred upload to OSM server.

This would be helpful for mapping parties with poor / no internet.
Participants can create a local adhoc network and upload to the local
Drupal installation. This also makes a local backup of the
participants mapping data before leaving the mapping party.

Would anybody else use this?

Future features?
- allow bulk attachment of photo directory for photo mapping.
