It's in 7zip format. Wait for some other guy standing up and convert it. ;-)

(Try "apt-get install p7zip" in the meantime ;-)

PS: Christoph's version called "planet.200607.osm.bz" is flawed.
PPS: Execute
   'sed "s/&apos;/\'/g" < planet.200607.osm > planet-fixed.osm'
if you already downloaded it.
PPPS: That's what I did :-D
