Lars is right, this is an unanswer.

Can I clear something up here? There's nothing we've said about the
(very real) privacy issues that says we can't identify different
tracks in the editor(s). Especially the ones which are explicitly
declared public!

Perhaps it's just the case that nobody who is capable of modifying the
relevant bits thought it necessary or interesting. It's not
scratching an itch*.

We need a tracklog API... I know there is a ticket for this.
We need to modify the code which plots the tracklogs on top of
landsat... if there isn't a ticket for this, please add one.

And please consider finding the code which currently draws yellow
blobs and extending it to draw different things, if it bothers you.

This is Open street map. There are a few very real privacy issues.
But there are still plenty of bits of software which only do the
simplest thing that could possibly work. PLEASE feel free to improve
on them.

Tom.

* I would blame JOSM for the lack of enthusaism in fixing most things
wrong with the editing process BTW - if you stream off your power
users off at an early stage like this then the others are bound to
suffer a lower quality product because the people who care aren't
using it. (But then I would also credit JOSM with 99% of the high
detail, good looking mapping that is coming out of OSM so don't take
my comment the wrong way). (And nobody is volunteering to fix the
applet, so I don't blame people for moving to JOSM).
