Hi,
After watching the OpenStreetMap talk at LUG Radio Live [1], I've
decided that I *have* to buy a GPS to help both OpenStreetMap and Free
The Postcode. I'd like something that can log GPS tracks to upload to
OpenStreetMap, give me co-ordinates to enter into Free The Postcode,
and give directions when I'm driving. I'm on a pretty tight budget,
but the Garmin StreetPilot i3 looks good, and costs around £130 [2],
which I can afford.
Can anyone answer these questions, please?:
1. Could I use it to log GPS tracks for OpenStreetMap?
2. Could I use it to get co-ordinates for Free the Postcode?
3. I run Ubuntu Linux. Will I be able to get GPS tracks off the Garmin
and onto Ubuntu?
4. Apparently it stores data on a 1cm square 256MB 'transflash' card.
Is that an MMC/SD card under another name? Could I get a card reader
to plug into my PC?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help. I really don't want to buy
something and then find out it's no good for helping out these
projects.
Russ
