If you have 10.4, you have to configure the Mac to use Java 1.5 before  
JOSM will run.

/Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences

then make sure "J2SE 5.0" is selected in the "Use version" pop-up  
menu, and at the top of the "Java Application Runtime Settings" list.
