OpenStreetMap uses the mailing list server software "GNU Mailman"
and when you see "Today's Topics:" that means you have subscribed
in digest mode. That's something only losers and lurkers do. So
if you're going to be active on the list or understand anything of
it, you should go to the listinfo page,

http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk

Enter your e-mail address in the field at the bottom and click
"Unsubscribe or edit options".

In the next screen, enter your subscription password, which is
included in the monthly reminder (or request a new reminder).

After this you get a long list of your current subscription
options, where the second one is "Set Digest Mode". Make sure
this is "Off". Then click "Submit my changes" at the bottom of
the page.

Besides being generally useless, the digest mode in Mailman 2.1.5
also breaks any Unicode postings, such as this one: åäö. This I
think is solved in Mailman 2.1.7 or so.
