So do I so if you'd like to code parts of gpsdrive in C++ feel free.

To be honest I myself thought of re-coding everything for QT-4 and C++, but
finally I decided for myself to work on an existing and well working
application rather than starting a new one. And I still don't regret this
decission.

You might want to have a look at the gdal and database stuff in gpsdrive. This
might help you develop your application too. Since it's also GPL; feel free
to grab stuff out of there too.
