Yeah, except that the numbers are totally arbitrary.  A change in
number just means that it will break existing code.  These numbers are
changing about every 3 months (a guess), so it's not really fair to
have only a one week overlap.

I'm not suggesting that all versions should be supported indefinitely,
just that the extra time it will take to allow two API versions to run
side by side is probably worth it.
